ok so, i got addicted in photography didn't I. :(

i currently have a SLT-a33, dont get me wrong, great camera apart from being a SLT. the problem is sony's glass costs silly amounts, for some reason their prices have doubled since last year. some of the basic lenses cost 230 pounds like the recent one i bought was a 75-300mm 4.6.5.7.

my question is, should i jump the boat while i still can and get a canon and nikon? will the lenses last to the new generation of bodies?

if so i have up to 600-700 pounds to buy a new body and ill get the glass later, im completely new to photography so i probably dont need a body worth that amount. open to suggestions.

thanks for the assist.

I don't entirely agree..

Down the bottom end, things are much of a muchness, in fact, the 75-300f/4.5-5.6 is £185 in jessops, and the 55-200 is £165, this is cheaper then Canon/Nikon..

And in the midrange, Sony do offer some excellent VFM lenses,
the 28-75 f/2.8 (£400ish) , or the new 16-50 f/2.8 (£500ish)..
or the walkaround SAL18-250 is cheaper then the similar Nikon 18-200VR

But there are some holes, where you end up with sony only having a choice of low end or their 'G' glass which itself is noted for how cheap it is for the performance, (But still expensive!)

I bought a Konica Minolta 7D years ago (now owned by Sony), and the best thing I bought at the time was the KM28-75 f/2.8 for £400 (Since been re-branded to a Sony version), and it's superb for the money and still impresses today.

And not forgetting you can use third party or even older KM glass (All my KM lenses work on the newer Sony bodies)..

Of course, circumstances differ for everyone, but unless you want the top end glass, I think Sony are fine..

I've thought about jumping ship to Nikon, but to be honest, it is the good VFM lenses/flash that make me think about trying Sony (Since my KM lenses can come with me)..

I was looking at an SLT-A65 and use what lenses I have, but slowly sell/save up for the 16-50 f/2.8 and the 18-250 for walkaround duty, then look at a 35mm f/1.4 prime or similar etc..
