My 01/02 plate golf isn't poxy!:)

How much did she pay for it? she got it loaded with a good spec there, didn't realise they did parking assist on the almera.

Not a bad upgrade though :D

lol, i only say poxy in comparison to the golf;) nah she was looking at Golf/Fabia, but struggled to find a good one with the right miles etc. my mate had a golf 1.6 also and his is okay,

she paid 5 straight for it including a p/x on the Escort worth approx £300...and tbh i couldnt find much else for the money, it HAD to be a hatch, and it HAD to have 5 doors and it couldnt be a ford.

my mam aint looking for a hot hatch by any means, just a newish shopping trolley. i think the almera fits the bill perfectly!

It is if its a 1.6.

Almera, the epitome of bland and uninspiring. Personally dislike the styling and the interior but that is subjective, but it will be reliable, and isn't too slow.

So, when comes the £4k of mods to make it a supercar eater?

lol, no if i was going to do the 4k "SuMera" that id grab a 1999V GTi. easier to fit the VET that way:):)

yea they are a bit bland etc. my mum and dad think they look quite nice. and besides on our street ye dont want anything too inconspicous as even the old escort has key marks down both sides LOL.

btw if anyone has driven a sha**** out 1998 Escort recently, or currently, i pity you!

What about the 1.4? I guess that isn't poxy?

Personally, I don't particularly like the look of the car, but it seems like you get a lot for your money with extras and as said above, won't be too slow for a shopping trolley! :D

almeras are cracking runabouts mine has been a workhorse for the last 10 years, great car for driving around town cause the steering is so light.
Mines on its last legs (sills are rusted through) but im toying with scrapping it and buying another they are so cheap second hand its not worth replacing the sills.

They aint a bad car for the money, does what it says on the tin, and has a reasonable chassis, id have one over an Astra, its a cracking work horse imo.

I've got a '96 1.4GX boring as hell to look at (well and to drive really i suppose compared to bigger engines). But apart from a sticky lambda sensor at ~50k it's had nothing else to report apart from consumables :) I can't believe how reliable its been actually. As little 1400cc engines go i wouldn't say its slow either, just revy.

Anyway i'm happy with it, and as my car is worth nothing too (meaning i couldn't really sell to upgrade) i'm starting to think about what i can do to improve its mediocre performace as cheap as possible. Want to start getting my hands dirty!
