07 2.2HDi

Short of a major lottery win, it'll be another 5-10 years before I get another 'new' car. :)

It certainly looks sizeable...

I know absolutely nothing about these, details on the trim/toys/pictures of interior etc/mileage/what you paid/etc !

My next door neighbour has bought one of these, it's vast, full of toys and they paid about 37p for it with around 14 miles on the clock. Ideal for a team bus (they have 2 little girls) and a pooch.

The 2.2 HDi is a great engine, and in general extremely reliable. Look after it and it will do 200k+ miles without blinking. I don't know much about the 407, but they seem like very nice cars IMO. Hope you enjoy it :)

More details & pics would be great!

Watch out for the front 'ball' joints theyre unique in style and fairly expensive imo. also dmf failure. otherwise enjoy the waft. my 2.0hdi would have been a good car if not for the dmf failure and subsequent large bill (i realise this is the hazard of diesels)

I did my research and know about the ball joints (both recently done) and DMF failures. That's why I'll be buying a warranty for it - thank you Quentin Wilson. ;) My daily drive to work should be enough to keep the FAP healthy too.

I purchased it because my old car - MK4 Golf 2.3 Auto was becoming a rolling repair job. In the last year it's had engine crank sensor, temperature sensor, water pump, front discs and pads. The gearbox is starting to play up, not that it was great to start with due to VW using plastic internals! One of the CV joints had just started knocking as well.

I didn't really need the extra space, but I like big cars and the space will come in useful occasionally. Also in bigger and more powerful cars, I drive more slowly and I am more relaxed.

I got this for just under £5.5k. 2 non smoking owners. FSH. 72K miles in just under 5 years. Half leather seating with electric adjustment on both front seats. Multi CD changer that doesn't play mp3s but the HU does. Bluetooth phone connection. Panoramic roof (ie glass). All the toys inside work.

I picked the 2.2 over a 2.0 because I just happened to find it. Similar pricing to the 2.0s I saw. Performance is better and fuel consumption is almost the same as the 2.0 - about ~2mpg worse, according to the 'official' figures and Honest John. I estimate (hope) I'll be saving ~£900/year in fuel (~40mpg v ~24mpg). Insurance is already £100 less.

I'm not too keen on the silver mesh grill, so it's going be painted black. I thought about removing it, but I think it serves as a good stone guard. I've already pulled some feathers out of it!

My dad had one of these for a while as a company car, was the 2.0 hdi fully loaded with a lot of options. As a company car it was treated as a work horse, and driven like one. But it was reasonably quick considering the size of the thing. He gave it back at 100k miles and it still drove very well, never had a single issue with it. Certainly one of the better French cars around :)

The 2.0 HDi 110 can have a solid flywheel conversion, which is fairly popular and doesn't seem to cause any other issues with engine mounts etc. This is probably also doable on the 2.2, in fact I'd be surprised if they aren't the same unit (I'll check on ServiceBox if you like).

The 2.2 HDi can also be de-CAT'ed and de-FAP'ed, in fact there are a couple of people on the 406 forums who have almost made it their lifes' work to get rid of as many as possible.

LOL - The silver is a bit garish right enough, I take it you've ordered something to replace it with?

Do you mean the silver horizontal stripes?
They're part of the normal grill.

If you mean the mesh as a whole, I'll either paint it all black (and the silver stripes) when I get bored of 'jaws' or I'll remove the mesh altogether.

We've had a few of these in stock, never had a 2.2 but had a few 2.0 HDI 136s, good all rounder DMF failure is expensive on these as it's about 8 hours labour.

Drive well and very comfortable, enjoy :)

Nah I meant the whole grille being silver is a bit much - quite hilarious revised face-on shot though
