new car logbook questions

Quick Question for you guys,

just ordered my first new car and was wondering will the dealer get the logbook in my name when the car is registered(ie I pick the car up on Friday will the local DVLA office print him a logbook out and i'll collect it when I collect the car, or am I right in thinking it follows the same procedure as with a second hand car and it will be a hefty wait on the DVLA to send it through the post?

Generally the dealer should have you fill in your required piece of the log book, and send it to the DVLA on your behalf. You then just have to wait for your new one in the post.

ho hum, anyone have any idea what the current wait time is for the dvla to issue a new logbook. looks like I may be in a hired taxi for a few weeks more yet. (local authority wont let me plate a new taxi without a logbook)

Took me about 5 days before I recieved my logbook.

Local authority will let you use a bill of sale in place of a logbook as proof of ownership / registered keeper.

Sold a car in early December and it took about 7 days to get back to the new owner.

unfortunately not, must lodge the logbook at time of application according to their paperwork. Christ no wonder nothing gets done in local authorities

Strange, must a rule exclusive to your council.

I've sold cars to Taxi drivers in North Tyneside, South Tyneside and Newcastle and an invoice has been sufficient.

south of the border is totally different to the draconian laws up here it seems.

the councils have so much more authority up here it seems and can pretty much do as they please.
