So my nephew got his new car in April, pre registered Corsa that only come with 1 key. It was brand new and only done 1 mile. Dealer said that it only comes with one, my sister did dispute this but didn’t get anywhere.

Fast forward today and he locked his keys in the car and had to get a locksmith out to open the car. Now as far as I know brand new cars have always come with 2 keys as standard, has anyone else only received 1 key on a new car. Plus what’s the cheapest way to get a spare key other than through the dealer?

Being as its a brand new car, i would go back where you bought it from

Do you have any paperwork that states how many keys? on an advert maybe ?

look up the car on autotrader and see if any in their say "comes with 2 keys" and get them to get a new key for you ?

Would this not have been covered by the RAC or similar?

Is this a chip shortage thing?

Don't get involved unless nephew is simple?

I'm trying to figure out how one locks a set of keys inside the car that those said keys drive....

Does it still have lock push stalks or something?

Sister is going to call the dealer tomorrow. Cant find anything online but every car I got new had had both sets with it.

That the only answer I can find online about chip shortage but others have said the dealer sent them the spare when it was available.

honestly no idea how you do it, tried to replicate it but it never did it again.

Any car that has the ability to open the boot without unlocking the rest of the car should disable the button! :D

You basically open the boot with the key, you put something in the boot and you've put the key on the stuff you put in the boot or you put it to the side of what you're putting in the boot and then you've locked yourself out! (When you close the boot and a split second later you realise you've done it)

Yes, my girlfriend has done this so I have first hand experience!

Ah yes that makes sense. I was really struggling with that for a bit then :D

My car came with one remote key fob and 1 key with no remote function, just a straight turnkey affair, always annoyed me as I swap cars with missus often, was it like that?

if it's a proximity based key , can you lock it in - car won't lock unless you press the button or walk away with the key ? these systems are designed by ze germans(stellantis?)
perhaps you then, also, economise with only one key set.

Nope just one remote key. Dealer said that as it was a pre registered car it only comes with one so sounds like the dealer is telling porkies. As I said before she will call them tomorrow, think she is going to call another Vauxhall dealer to see what they say.

It’s a straight up remote with physical ignition key. My corsa is a keyless entry and got two identical keys with mine that is a year older. A google search shows a few hits with people getting one key due to chip shortage but have then been sent the 2nd key later on.

I’ve done this twice.

Once was a hire car in Spain, I literally saw the key as the boot closed, but it was too late - left stranded in a shopping centre car park :o
Called the hire company who sent a locksmith, who didn’t speak English too well and we wasted half a day sorting it out.

That's how the keys came with my one and only Vauxhall, a Astra. My Ford B-Max has a pair of remote key fobs.
