Hi there,

Got a new radio for my car about a month ago. Installed it fine, and works fine. For some reason, it's no longer remembering my radio channels that I set into the memory. Also, theres a red LED behind the detachable facia and it no longer flashes when the engine is off / no key in the ignition etc.

Am I right to think it's getting no power (or something) when the car is off? This was working fine before, its only in the past 2 weeks or so that it's been doing this and only noticed it throughout the past few days.

I've took the radio out, checked all the fuses and wires for the radio and they are all fine. Reconnected it up about 5 times. Checked the fuses under the dashboard and they are fine and also the fuses under the bonnet.

Anyone have any idea what else could be causing this?

Cheers

As far as I know the stereo needs to have a permanent live to the battery so that the stations will save. If you try and combine the red and yellow wires, that should do the job.

Wait till someone else confirms tho as i'm not exactly sure... Tho I am certain it's a problem with the red and yellow wires ;)

There are normally two live wires that feed into a radio. Red and yellow.
The red is normally permanent live so should be live regardless of the ignition.
The yellow would be switched live and only live when the ignition is on.

Can you get hold of a multimeter or even just a circuit tester (screwdriver type) to see if they are behaving like that.

I can't think why it would suddenly stop working after some time if there are no loose wires. If it's not wiring or fuses, then possibly the radio itself is knackered.

Sounds like no permanent feed, the reason it worked up till now is there will be a little CR3023 rechargeable cell in the fascia.
