I picked up my new car today, a Mondeo ST24.
2000 X Reg
Silver
55k miles
Full service history
Full MOT and 1 month TAX
Half heated leather. A/C etc.
Only one minor bodywork problem.

I'm impressed with the car, I have a Pulsar so I was imaging the speed to be somewhat 'different' but it pulls through the gears quickly, the torque is great on the car. The thing is extremely quiet, I was standing next to it and you couldn't even hear it on! However, the sound of the V6 is extremely nice when in high revs, very nice :D
Gearbox is effortless to change gears, the car is a real nice drive and the added heated seats and A/C are very useful

I never thought I'd have a Mondeo, I'm only 21 after all :p but so far I'm very impressed. I love the looks of it too. Especially the rear.

The only problem I have I hope you guys can help me; the car has a standard cassette headunit with CD changer under the passenger seat. I grabbed a few of my CD's and stuck them in the changer, played first time fine. I was fiddling with the "sound lever/knob" by the steering wheel which adjusts volume etc, when the Radio came on, no worries I probably selected it accidentally, so I changed over to "CD" on the unit again, but on the 3 selected CD numbers came "CD error E2 error" and then radio came back on.
This confused me a bit, I tried unloading/loading the CD's again but to no avail, same error, I fiddled with the "sound knob" again and then tried again, and the CD worked again, I thought it must just be a one off that this occurred.

Anyway, later on today the same thing occurred without me touching the "gear knob" after me fiddling with the player and cd changer for ages it decided to play number 6 CD, but not the other 2, but then it was very intermittent playing 6 and sometimes worked and sometimes didn't. I then changed that CD to number 4 and it liked that then, so I was then wondering if it was the CD's that were the problem?

They were all genuine CD's, not copies, 1) Audioslave 2) American head charge and 3) Mudvayne.

Anyone got any ideas?

Do you think the CD changer needs replacing, or even the unit?

Cheers

What make are the CD changers?

I really need one before friday as I'm driving down to Wales, very long trip, need my music!

I tried one burnt CD yes but that didn't work neither, it should accept CD-R's anyway...

The other 3 are genuine CD's.

Very nice motor! Now head over to fordmondeo.org and get yourself a metal impellor water pump for peace of mind.

You might also want to check the spare wheel for signs of a small swimming pool :)

Not a bad example.... but it is a mondeo

it could be something simple like the connection being loose, like if your taking a corner and it moves a little under the seat, bit more annoying if its loose on the back of the HU

i doubt if it does play the discs in the first place and they arent scratched that they would be the cause, copy protected discs tend to just refuse to play in the first place

You really can compare a Nissan Pulsar to an ST24 and your only 21? They seem strange cars to compare and your age seems a bit suspect to me.

I get the impression the Pulsar is his toy and the Mondeo has been purchased as a slightly more practical daily driver.

Not saying it isn't done but how many pulsar owners do you know that are 21 and asking about a mondeos? Seems a bit sus to me.

I see your point but if he was going to lie about owning a car don't you think he'd have picked cars a little more impressive than a Mk2 Mondeo and a 15 year old Nissan Sunny?

Neither car is particularly out of reach of a 21 year old with a full time job, high levels of disposable income due to living with parents and a tolerance for high insurance premiums. The only reason I went for the 2.0 16v is becuase I was 19 at the time not 21, so a V6 is entirely feasible.

If I was going to pick something to be sceptical about in this thread it would be the history of the Mondeo - why is the V6 badge in the wrong location and why does there appear to be a questionable colourmatch on the door - suggests to me it may have had a scrape along the side and been resprayed at some point by somebody who didn't realise that V6 badges are positioned above the side repeater not below.

Im with you on this Fox but still think if someone has has the experience of owning such a high a maintenance car as a pulsar do you think they would have to come to OCuK motors forums to get experience and recommendations on modeos?

Sure they would - I mean, there are a lot of Mondeo owners here and knowledge of imported Japanese turbocharged hatchbacks doesn't really transfer to how the CD changer works in a Ford Mondeo, does it?

People tend to go where they feel they'll get a good answer and, rightly or wrongly, this forum has a bit of a reputation for mondeo-love :p

hmm im probably being blind, but where is he asking for reccomendations or advice on mondeos? It's specifically the cd changer he is having a problem with, everything else seems fine and he made the decision himself

Tom.

Oh jeez, I never expected to come back to this! Like Fox said it's hardly worth lying about coming on here and asking about a Mondeo..
And yes I was keeping the Pulsar for the weekend.

Shall I somehow show you proof of me having these cars? Pics of the V5? Me spread over the front bumper?

Anyway, I had done a HPI check before purchasing the car and all came back clear, the different colour of the doors I noticed was when I was taking pictures too, it was the light however in the situation as I was taking the pictures in a residential area, light was blocked on some parts of the car.

Oh and yes, I made a mistake with saying it was X reg, I am very, very sorry.

not meaning to point out a bad bit of the car, but it looks like it's been sprayed half way through, the front door looks very light compared to the rear..

other than that, very nice car for 21, and a pulsar too :) fair play :D
