New Car, struggling to find anything

I agree that the F10 is the best replacement, but you still need 15-20k to get a nice, well specced one with a decent engine. Last of the line W211's are 4 years old now, same age as my last of the line e39 was when I bought it, and it's still possible to buy them with 1 owner in fantastic condition.

Yea but a last of the line W211 is still very expensive for a car that originally appeared 11 years ago. You are talking well into five figures for a really good one. Seems like too much for what you get.

Not really. In 2007, I bought my 4-year old e39 530d with 83k on the clock for £10700 which I'm pretty sure you said was an exceptionally good deal at the time (asking was £12,495, inline with market at the time) which was also a car that appeared 11 years before. Having a look on autotrader, there are 19 2009 280/320CDI's <100k available under £13k, and pretty much all of them decent spec. Same story for 3.0D E60s and even less choice of larger engined A6s at that money.
