Okay guys, ive been waiting a year to post this thread! Basically, my 1990 Corolla is out of tax and mot and id have to spend £250ish getting it road legal again and it doesnt seem worth it. So time to get a new car. Budget is £2500, can stretch a bit if required. Looking for a car is doing my head in. There are some nice cars around that range, but then insuring them becomes a problem, such is the case with a golf gti mk3 for example.

So suggestions please! I'm 21 with 2 years ncb so insurance is a concern but not a massive problem. Want a medium sized car but am open to suggestions. So far ive been looking at Civics, Golfs and more ambitious A4's and the like. Ideally it will have reasonable running costs and be sort of nippy. Almost anything will be an improvement on my Corolla so dont be shy!

Please help me!!!

Mondeo 2.0 16v Ghia X RSAP.

Job done. Not old and naff like a Golf, not ricey with a terrible interior like a Civic, not 10000 years old and expensive to fix like an A4.

It's for the win, and you know it.

4 minutes before the first pathetic sarcastic comment, I wondered how long it would take you guys.

Give me a damn break - it even fits his criteria!

I agree with the mondeo but go for a 2.5 V6 ghia x and get the RSAP kit fitted :)
or go for an ST24.

Either the 2.0 or 2.5 v6 Ghia X, then RSAP if you are bothered having it or not. Lots of kit, the 2.5 v6 especially has enough power but not sure on your insurance position.

I have an ST24 insured for just under £800 TPFT with Norwich Union.
I'm 21 with 1 year NCB and 1 claim (crash, my fault)
Pretty good area.

You could buy an old Golf GTI? It'll be slow and look 400 years old and have no kit but it'll say VW on the front and not be a Mondeo and stuff! Plus you'll look SUPER cool.

Or... a 406 Coupe?

Alright alright fox calm down. Could get an old looking Mondeo and drive about a daddy wagon, but i dont need space for a baby seat yet. I have been looking at Civic Vti's. Look very interesting.

Civic VTI? Nope can't have one of those, I mean OMG it has 5 doors and a spacious boot so its obviously ONLY for people with children and its a Honda which means its OBVIOUSLY only for old people.

Buy a 3 door Golf or a 106 GTi. That's the only really permissable car for somebody under 25, IMHO.

Civic VTi's look about as interesting as tea with the vicar - thats half the point - you get fantastic performance and a great driving experience from something that looks so horrifically bland people don't give it a second look but the 5 door 1.8 is, IMHO, the best version as Dolph will testify.
