ok, time to replace my faithful x1900xt and get into the new batch of cards for some graphical lovliness.

budget of arounnd the £250 mark for a new card, hit me with your suggestions

I'd go for the Radeon 3850 if you want to save yourself a few notes or if you like lots of eye candy at higher resolutions (1680x1050+) I'd go for a 8800GTS 512MB.

My choice would be one of the new 8800GTS (G92) they can be had for a little over £200. However dont overlook the GTX too, the OCUK one is just inside your budget and they offer stunning performance too. Let us know how you get on. :)

How much difference would 128 Stream Processors make over 112 Stream Processors??

that seems to be the only difference between the new GT and GTS, and the clocks seem faster on the GT's

Yep from what I have read, the difference in performance between the GT and the GTS is very small if any from reports anyway. One of the advantages of the GTS is it runs cooler I think, therefore can overclock more efficiently. But the GT is capable of mind blowing performance.

see, this is why im mega confused over what to buy, at one point it used to simple of biggest memory & biggest clock speed = best card, but now it doesnt seem to be the case.

the GTXs seem slower that the new GTS cards (but have more memory), and the new ATIs look like they should blow you to kingdom come - but people rate them lower than most of the 8800 series....confusion :(

WAIT BEFORE 3870X2? maybe other card price decrease ?

I really cant see them droping more then £10 if that.

I just ordered 8800GTS (BFG) :D. The reason for my choice is well its only £18 more than the 8800GT (BFG). You get much better cooling and will overclock much better with that. Some 8800GT's are coming with 700mhz on core and they are cooking like mad .

I know you can get a 8800GT for £165 but i wanted the lifetime warranty. But if you dont care about the warranty so much then it might be better to get a 8800GT hehe :p

The GTS is only faster at smaller resolutions. The GTX walks all over the GT and GTS when it comes to big res gaming with all the bells and whistles turned on. Only at smaller resolution will the GTS be faster.

If you are gaming at 1680x1050 or below then a GT will do you fine but if you game any higher or love to use AA/AF even at 1680x1050 then I'd really consider the GTX or the upcoming X2 3870.
