Hi looking to get a new card to replace my x1900xt, Currently looking at about £150 and it's between the 9800GTX+ and 4850. I've seen afew threads and people seem to be recommending one or the other without much difference bewteen them however I was wondering about the sound differences between them? I'm useless so I wont be overclocking them but what about in general? Also if I went for a 4850 would the 512 be ok or should I go for the 1024MB?

Cheers

Would that be better than the 4850 1024MB? And also what are the noise levels like on those cards?

Cheers
Yep much faster. Overclocked its close to GTX280 memory bandwidth. 4850 1GB is a gimmick. 4850 512MB is almost as fast and cheaper. Not that noisy at all in the winter. Summer maybe when your case gets hot but you can easily silence it for £20 by getting an Artic VGA Rev 2 heatsink from here or just flash the bios to mod it to a different fan profile (which you can also do via newer drivers as well now).

Just browse here as loads of people have done it the info is in this gfx cards forum.

48xx series supports shader 4.1 and dx10.1, we are allready starting to have 10.1 games (Stalker, seriously the sun effects are jaw dropping)

Feels like I've been posting this link all over the place!!!

This should answer your question.

If you are going to spend that kind of money, stretch your budget a little further and get a GTX 260 216 core version.

Stupid question: The maxcore is different to the 216 core?

Edit... and another: Does the 260 do shader 10.1/4.1? It sounds like a better card but what will be the implications of it not having support for them?

Nvidia dont do shader 4.1 OR Direct X 10.1 either.
