Just installed my new gfx card x1950gt a few days ago and ive started getting bios beeps when i boot up, 1 long, 2 short which i believe means there is a problem with the video card (well something like that). What could be the problem with the card ? If i reboot the pc a few times it sorts itself out and starts up ok

Try taking out the card from the socket and re-seating it. If this doesn't solve it I'd RMA the card. If the BIOS is beeping and re-seating doesn't solve it then there's little you can do apart from returning it.

Everything runs ok once its up and running so im guessing (and hoping) it just need re-seating

If its working after being plugged in and switched on for a few minutes, it "could" be a power issue. Perhaps your PSU is on the limit of being able to power the card, and a few mins of charging capacitors gets its stable enough to boot.

I bought a new PSU a Antec EarthWatts 430W after it was recomended in these forums that 380 PSU (same make as one i bought) would be ok for the card, as i only had a mercury 400w..........so if its a kind of a power issue on boot up will i need to buy another psu ?

Ive removed the card, re-seated it and still the same, i get the beeps but after rebooting 3times it boots up and everything is still fine after that. Should i be looking at sending the card back or getting yet another PSU ? Also ive just noticed while re-fitting the card, there is what seems like sone kind of rubber/soft pad stuck to a what looks like a chip of some kind (at the rear just next to the agp slot). Its just short of about 1"sq - whats this ?

Hm, i've just had the same issue with my x1900 actually =/...l though my system does the same error beeps even when the card isnt present???

So im not sure...Need to try a friends card or something so i can rule it out.

Unfortunately (although i have 2 other pc's) i dont have another pc to try the card in as they dont have a suitable PSU so id be waisting my time fitting the card in them........

Well getting the system to just post on an "underpowered" psu should give any damage, just dont let it run for long...That or disconnect everything else that isnt needed for a system to post, ie cdrom hdd's etc.
