Hi all

It's been a while since I started a thread here on this hallowed forum, but am looking at a gpu upgrade and thought I would seek your opinions.

My current system is in my sig, but have got an itch for a decent upgrade for my 5850. I play at 1080p and will do for a while yet. But I want a card with a lot more grunt to turn up all the eye candy at 1080p for games like Crysis 3, new Bioshock, Rome 2 Total War etc.

Budget is around £250 - thought about a 7950. Could stretch to potentially the Asus DirectCU 2 one because I want a silent card at idle (and pretty quiet at load too).

Any and all thoughts welcome :)

James

PS Worth waiting a few months for new Nvidia cards? I understand new AMD cards won't be here til Q4.

7950 is perfect for your needs and budget. I recommend the Gigabyte Windforce 3x although if you're willing to pay extra for the ASUS then do that.

Thanks for the responses so far guys, much appreciated.

I was tempted to just blow the £300 on a 7970 but I get annoyed with my reference 5850 noise levels, so will settle for a more expensive, quieter 7950.

The reason I mentioned the Asus one was because the Tom's Hardware video persuaded me, it's insanely quiet at load:

But Davanius you make a good point, wouldn't want that thing bending anything. Need to check I've got enough room in my case actually :p

And the Gigabyte is cheaper...wish TH had done a video of the Gigabyte card too!
