Hey guys,

Looks like my 1gb powercolor 4870 is dying and will not be under warranty (bought in oct 2008) because as far as I remember, it's only got a 12 month guarantee on it

I'm a bit out of touch so I'm not really sure what to go for? £150 is my absolute top limit. Any suggestions?

Cheers!

I don't personally think that the slight performance gain of a 5830 over a 4870 is really worth ~£160. You might be better off with a 5770?

Similar performance to the 4870, yet with DX11, lower power reqs, and cooler! ~£120 should get you a good 'un :D

The way I see it, you have two choices:
HD4890
HD5770

The former is a step up, but one back in terms of tech.
The latter is a lateral step, but one up in terms of tech.

What size monitor do you have ? a 5770 will probably be struggling sooner or later down the line at 1920 res but you could add another when you have the spare cash to get 5870 performance for 2/3 the cost or less if you buy the second 5770 second hand.
Overall I would say get the 5770 when overclocked and they overclock easy as they stay so cool they aren't bad little cards.

A lot of 5770 users will tell you that a 5770 works surprisingly well even at 1920 res.
