Hey guys I'm after a new card for around £250. Should I just grab a 290 or is it worth waiting till next month when AMD new cards maybe out?

290 would be a good shout but their reliability is somewhat hit and miss! I could sooner go for a GTX970 and pay a little knowing it'll not have as many issues.

For a little more you can get a GTX970 which I think would be the way to go. Unless of course you prefer AMD then yes a 290.

Pretty sure its a lot more miss than hit. Quite an inaccurate statement. A 290 would have been the better choice for the budget! Or even a 290X lightning which was cheaper than what OP got and would have a lot more overclocking headroom. The lightning would be a faster card also out of the box and when overclocked unmatched by the 970.

Not to mention the lightning gets 4 free games making its value overlooked. Could knock off a good £35 - 40 more if the games are sold.

Just like saying the 970 would be a good shout but their wining is some what troublesome! Hope you've got some headphones as you'll have it screaming at you. <-- is a known issue but quite inaccurate and misleading.

Anyways OP never the less a 970 reference is a good card and will serve you well just you could have got better for your money.

Good choice. A cracking card, made all the better with the reduction in price.

Was it in stock when you ordered? Currently an ETA of 30th Jan.

I decided to buy another 290 for my 2nd PC. I was going to get the 970 or wait for the 960 but the prices of them have shot up.

You was able to get a 970 for £230 when they was first released and I bet then the 960 comes out its going to be the same price as the 970 when it first came out. So in my eyes buying a 970 now isnt great value for money.
