Hi

Looking to upgrade my 7950, it needs to be able to handle 3 monitors so resolution of 5760x1080.

System currently is i7 4770, 16Gb Corsair Vengeance, OCZ Fatal1ty 750W PSU so I don't think any of these cards will have a problem, although my case limits the GFX card to 300mm.

Limit is £500, if I can get what I need for a less that's cool, no point in spending money I don't need to :)

Looking to play BF4 and a few other FPS.

Cheers

I play on three 22" screens at a res of 5040x1050 on a single 7950, and get pretty good performance on BF4 at modest settings (will try and post later but from memory just 2xMSAA and most settings on high) and also play a bit of Arma 3. Am keeping an eye on Mantle, since with luck it will mature and mean I can sell the 2nd 7950 sitting on the shelf for crossfire.

I would wait a few weeks - might save some £££s.

I would sell your card and get two R9 280X.
Probably you can get 150 or more for your card, 2 R9 280x will cost you around 500.. so at the end your upgrade will cost you 350.

I'm running 2 r9 280x at 5884x1080 using a mix of ultra and high settings on BF4, I get 60+ fps.

Cheers Guys

Do you think my 750w PSU will handle 2 R9 280x cards?

Any problems with crossfire and drivers these days?

Just keep an eye out for a 7950 or even grab a second hand one to CF with your original. The 280X is faster but not by much and this could save you a fair few pounds.

Not sure if you have MM access but if you do, they crop up in there from time to time. If not, you get buyer protection from that well know auction site.

Ohhh and as long as your PSU is a good brand, that will be fine for CF.

OCZ Fatal1ty 750W, had it for a few years now though.

I don't have access to MM, I need another 600 posts :(

I couldn't see any in there for sale at present but I would still look around for another 7950. The difference at your resolution between the 7950 CF and 280X CF will be so minimal, it would be the cheapest way to go.

That PSU should be fine but the capacitors do age over time... Just a heads up :)

That is why I told you to sell your 7950 and get 2 280X, because it will be impossible to find a 7950 and it will be easy to sell it.

Actually I sold my 7950 in December for more than I paid a 280x

If you could crossfire a 7950 with a 7970 and the 280x is the same as a 7970, can you crossfire a 7950 witha 280x?
If not dont know if you can still get hold of 7970's.

I take it if I Xfire a 7950 and 7970 it throttles the 7970 back?

Don't have the first clue about Xfire 7950 with 280, what would Mantle think of that?

OcUK have a 7970 IceQ for £259 but they don't have any 7950s.

You can mix 7970 with a 7950 without any problems and the 7970 will not throttle back, they can work in different speeds.

I think you can crossfire a 7950 with a 280x, since a 280x is basically a 7970 ghz edition.

Since you have £500, you can buy 2 280x and sell your 7950 later and get some money back. I wouldn't pay 260 for a 7970.
