I've just bought a BFG 8800 GTX OC Watercooled card, had the water cooling in bits today and rebuilt around this card (previously SLi'd 7800GTX's). Giving the rad a good clean has dropped the temps down a fair bit I can tell you!

Only had a chance to have a quick go with the card and I'm not that overly impressed truth be told. Frame rates are a bit better ingame (only looked at source based stuff so far), but not a massive leap. So I thought I'd run 3DMark06 to see what happens, I got a score of 9333... Now bearing in mind I got 8000 with the old setup (I don't even think the cpu was the same either, a 3800X2 @ 2610 against the Opty 165 @ 3000 I'm running now), I'm not too impressed! When installing the drivers I used driver cleaner and booted into safe mode etc. I've checked the PCIE settings and it is at x16. The drivers I'm using are 160.02 on Windows XP. Am I expecting too much or is there a problem here?

Also I've just noticed that I may not have the card which I paid for, I went for the BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC 768MB Silent WaterCooled from OcUk but the card I have doesn't state OC and it's running at ref spec 575Mhz core according to nTune, so I'll be dropping OcUk a line about that to see what the score is!

I got 9500 today on a C2D E6600 @ 3GHz and an 8800GTS 640Mb OC2 @ stock. I think with a GTX you should be getting a higher score than me... and I'm on Vista!

A stock GTX (575/1800) and stock E6600 (2.4Ghz) should get ~10.5k in 3DMk06, so allowing for the Opty, your score might be about right. Submit your score to the Orb, and compare it to similar systems.

Just ran it with the updated 3DMark06 after a reboot and got 9580 , Looks a little down compared to others on there... I'm not fussed by 3DMark scores, it's in games where it counts. I'll have to give them a bash!

Somehow during the new card install I've now broken Steam... It lags out and eventually kills my internet connection (via wireless to router). I've tried a fair few things but to no avail, it was working fine before! I've just recreated the wireless connection with manual settings so giving that a go. Nothing is ever straight forward!

edit: Nope that hasn't worked either. Error message I get in the console is "NET_SendPacket Warning: WSAEINTR". I've tried rebuilding the TCP/IP stack, Winsock, rebooting router, PnP is already disabled on router, all the required ports are forwarded, deleted the servers.vdf files in Steam as well as ClientRegistry.blob, disabled QoS on wireless connection... Other games seem to be fine but anything Steam based is not. Never had much of a problem with Steam before :(
