I have an XFX 6800 XT 256mb PCI-e Graphics Card.

Now that i have got a 19'' Widescreen TFT (Acer) should i get a better Graphics card? A 7800 GT perhaps? I do play games quite a bit.

I would say if you want to play at a higher resolution and want to use some eye candy...then yes...go for it. The 7900GT's are offering serious performance right now for an excellent cost!

Well, the native res is 1440 x 900 so i would not want to go beyond that. But would i notice a good difference by going to a 7800 GT? I want to stay with Nvidia guys.

I would go for the 7900 GT 4 extra pipes and clocks fantastically and not that much more expensive over the 7800 GT.

Thing is, it is expensive!!! Waw! The wife will kill me! What if i just get the 7800 GT. These can be picked up for a good price 2nd hand?

Dont tell her...haha!

You may be just as cheap getting one of the XFX 7800GT Extreme's from OCuk...on special now....cos you wont find one much cheaper than this anyway (and its the OC'ed edition)

2nd hand should be a good route, especially if i try to get a BFG as they have a lifetime warranty!

Oops just seen you want to stay with Nvidia, go for the more expensive slower 7900 GT then.

There is nothing between the two.

And 7900 GT's you know full well can be had very cheap now.
They are also great clockers.

so get a x1800 about the same price, are louder, use more power and run hotter.

opps I see you want to stay with nvidia...

Thats fine enjoy your new card. ;)

The 7900 GT is about the same as a 7800 GTX, the x1800 XT is faster than the 7800 GTX, also it isn't loud at all, and is also a great clocker, but yes it uses more power/generates more heat, but it is faster, and cheaper, but he's going for the 7900 GT which is still a cracking card. :)

Its a pity you want to stay with Nvidia as the x1800 XT 256 mb is the same price (£193 in the 'This Week Only') as the 7800 GT, but it whoops it.
