got oblivion and going to install after xmas. just wandering how much this game has cost in hardware upgrades!!

anyhow, im running a gainward 7800gs+/512 which goes to 600/1400.
im very satisfied with it (gets 10k in '05) but would like AA and HDR at the same time. since i have'nt installed the game yet im wandering how it will run and how high i can get the setings at 1280 x 1024.

there is a chance that after crimbo i'll be able to upgrade to a larger monitor 21" crt or 20" widescreen tft.

so do you think my card will run this game at 1280 x 1024?
if the price of 8800gtx cards drops significantly get one?
get a cheaper 1950xt?
do nowt and await a price war?

i have a feeling the 8800gtx might be a future classic like the old 6800gt.

and yes im writing posts like this to get to 250 and the mm :D

spex:

x24400+ @ 2.5
2 gig RAM ddr @208 1T
gainward 7800gs+/512 @600/1400
19" mitsubishi crt

I would definitely keep the 7800GS+ because even though the X1950Pro may be cheaper (and offer better image quality plus HDR+AA), you already have a card just as good really.

Your card will easily last you until the first wave of DirectX 10 cards drop in price, and really should last you until the second wave are out.

ah but how will it play oblivion?
unfortunately i looked at some utterly fantastic screenies in the game section. almost wept :D

if i could sell my current card for good money i'd seriously think about an 8800.

oh, so as not to mislead. i have an asrock dual 939 mobo hence the gainward 7800gs+

pci-e is not a problem.

The 7800 GS+ is just a 7900 GT, here how well it runs at 1280x1024 (just look at the 7900 GT basically seen as its the same card as said), also the 7800 GS+ can't do AA+HDR, Nvidia only put that in the new 8800's, as said above though its still a pretty good card and should last you until the next wave of cards, by which time G80's will be a lot cheaper, and you also have a lot more choice, as faster/better cards will be out as well. :)

yeah i know i can't have AA and HDR, one of the reasons im thinking of an upgrade.
i guess in that comparison link the 7900gt was stock?
since mine runs at 600/1400 with 512 its more of a 7950gt

i hate the itchy upgraditus syndrome!

your card is faster than a 7950gt so i would never sell it on for a x1950pro. stick with the card.

BUT if you do sell your card on the members market you can get a x1950pro and probably profit a bit on the side.

Profit? I don't think so. He won't be able to sell his 7800GS+ for enough to justify what it cost him in the first place and leave him with enough money to buy an X1950Pro AND have money left over...

Also, the fact that this thread's sole purpose was so the OP could have another post under his belt, and make him one step closer to the gates of MM (which isn't even here at the moment anyway) shows that he doesn't have it yet. :D

eh? wheres all this 1950 pro malarkey coming from?

i'd want to sell mine to get an 8800GTX or 1950XTX if it were dirt cheap!

i reckon oblivion has cost gamers thousands in terms of upgraded gfx cards!
why can't i be satisfied with being a console fanboy and put up with crappy low rez gaming?

lol! yeah lemme into the mm! the thought of being able to buy and sell quality hardware instead of dealing with that chavvy auction site makes me drool with at the prospect :p
