I've got a capable, but ageing system. Q8200 @ 3.2, GIGABYTE P45, 8GB RAM with a 9800GTX+ on a 24 inch display.

The card struggles sometimes with different games when I max out settings, which I prefer to do.

I am thinking of upgrading the video card. What would you recommend so that I'm not wasting money putting it into this system?

Get yourself a 6870, then further on down the line, get another one. Those cards crossfire like crazy. If you're not willing to crossfire then a GTX470 will do fine for a while to come. Depending on budget?

Money not an issue but I have no intention of xf or sly in the next two years so single card that won't be bottlenecked by the rest of the system is what I'm after.

I defiunitely can wait for the 6900 etc, my only concern is whether I will see the full benfit from those cards on my current system? I guess I will or you wouldn't recommend tham, but just wanted to confirm.

If you can get a bit more of an overclock out of your cpu then that'll be a nice bonus, otherwise 3.2 is no slouch and generally speaking won't be an issue, or at least not much of one at all save for the odd game.

Actually the reason I'm recommending the 6950/GTX570 over the 6970/GTX580 is because taking in the consideration of the Q8200 at 3.2GHz 'might' be a bit of limitation and delivering slightly less frame rate that the max capability. If it was at 3.6GHz or above, then I would probably say grab the 6970/GTX580...but still I'm not sure if it's really worth taking the chances consider those cards would cost £100~£150 more.
