I'm currently running a GTX 570 and somehow its been ok up until now. It's coping with GTA V but its no where near as pretty as it should be.

I'm looking at the MSI GeForce GTX 970 Gaming Edition 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card as I want a 4GB card and willing to spend about £300 but not much more.

Is this the best I can get for the cash? Do I need to compare the variants of the 970? and will there be a lot of difference between them?

970 is probably the best vfm card for this game. It actually performs quite close to the 980 and has a slight edge over the 290X/290. Most 970s are pretty cool and quiet and the MSI one you fancy is one of the quietest 970s there are. Would be perfect if it had a backplate but that's not essential and can be had on the million edition MSI. I would say avoid the cheap nasty plastic 970s with the old 680 reference cooler.

The idea that the Gigabyte G1 Gaming 970 is on special offer making it only a few quid more than the MSI would be tempting. I had the G1 gaming and it was cool and quiet, but it's very long so you need a fairly big case or might have to remove a hard drive cage.

I would try and make a decision soon if I was looking to buy one seeing as there are a few 970s on limited offers this week and not sure how much longer they'll be giving the Witcher 3 away with release so soon.

Good suggestion.....bought :D

I've got a good sized Antec case so should be ok about the size of the card - but as you say I can always take out an HD cage.
