Atm i am runnin a 125w quad amd cpu 1 x hdd and 4870 card . I plan to upgrade to a 5870 (and another 4gb of ram ) will my 550w psu manage given the 5870 pull over 300w peak when benching .

If my psu isnt man enough what do you recomend ?

What's your manufacturer of PSU?
It should be able to make it assuming the efficiency is high enough, but some PSU's have significantly lower efficiency than others, I wouldn't settle for anything under 600W with a quad core running just incase.

I'd recommend this Corsair TX 650W though, cheap and efficient, and enough power, just browsing through, and holy crap have they gone up in price.
