Looking to upgrade to a new card because i believe my current one is going to die quite soon (been having some issues on bf3 and other games)

current specs are

Intel® Core™2 Quad Processor Q6600 @ 3ghz
ATI radeon HD 4870
Foxconn BLACKOPS X48 Socket 775 DDR3
Kingston 4gb Ddr3 1600mhz
750w antec psu
22" widescreen monitor @1920 x 1080

looking to spend about £200 - £250

any sugesstions would be great.

The AMD 7000 series are out in December by the looks of it, though we can't be sure what exact date just yet. Iirc they are releasing their top end gpu's first. If you don't wish to wait then I'd look at either a 570, 560ti or a 6950.

Better for price, yes, but not quite as good in performance, though there isn't a great deal in it. The 6950's direct competitor is the 560ti, the 570 / 480 are on par with 6970. If you want to save a few quid then that would be a good buy. :)

would there be a large difference in performance or would it not be noticeable? the 6950 just seems like a good deal

Don't let my comment put you off, there are plenty of satisfied AMD customers on this forum (I've nearly always had ATi / AMD myself), I simply favour Nvidia at the mo. Here's a useful benchmark bible that we tend to use here, though don't forget newer drivers will have improved both sets of results :

To be fair arc@css, in one breath you say that a 6950 is comparable to a 560ti, but then you post a comparison with a 570?
Couldn't be because the 6950 mostly beats the 560ti when you compare them could it? ;)

You can't really compare the 6950 & 570 because the 570 costs over a hundred quid more than a 2Gb 6950.

Sub £250 I'd go for the 6950 2Gb every time personally.

I compared the 570 to the 6950 to show the 570 being the faster card.

The 570 doesn't cost over a hundred notes more than the 6950.

And being a £350 card, it's a hundred quid over budget. You may as well have posted a comparison between a 590 and 6850 mate, it would have been as relevant. :p

EDIT: I'd be wanting more than 1280Mb.
