Hi all

I'm looking at starting a new career, I am currently just a warehouse op so nothing exciting, I was looking at college courses part time for either Electrician or working/fixing computers, What do you all think would be best,

College or Apprentice??

Only issue I have is I need to pay my bills, Rent, Sky, Motorcycle on finance, Insurance and House utilities So need to take those into consideration

Electrican

The fixing computers/support seems a bit tedious and isn't financially rewarding. Big companies are also merging roles in order to save money. I think most people who were in that role where I last worked were doing it for a greater purpose eg to gain experience and certain skill set to branch in to a more specific roles eg networking, software testing etc.

If all your IT ambitions is to just do desktop support, then I agree it's not going to be financially rewarding, I'd say you'd struggle to get over £30k once fully experienced, but I've seen desktop support roles in banking paying up to £50k.

Most people just use it as a stepping stone towards a more specialist role as mentioned above, where from my experience you can make £80k plus bonus before having to move in to management or going contracting to advance further.
