Ok

So its new cars time. We've been struggling with 1 car for 2 years now. Which is daft for us.

The MB GLA has to go its a dog....Diff is grinding AGAIN and as the 1st one lasted 11k miles I'm surprised the 2nd one reached 60k

Ok so this is where being a Gemini screws things up.

We need 2 cars. 1 Needs to be a 4x4 Suv Type. BMW X3, Skoda Kodiaq, Volvo XC 60/90 Jag F pace Etc.

The 2nd car, Well thats where being a Gemini messes things up.

1st on the list was a 435d Xdrive convertible as it pretty much covers all bases.

But then a mate got an RS3 in for Part ex and now the teenager in me woke up ( I'm 44) But at my age an RS3 is probably not the best idea

It doesn't necessarily need to be diesel (although I do like how they drive) We'll probably be looking at PCP as I want to change every 3-4 years and its probably the cheapest "monthly" way into them.

So is the X3 a decent SUV for the money. It'll have to have all the toys.. I don't do as much mileage anymore but I can spend 10+hrs in it when I do so it needs to have all the creature comforts of my office.

The Skoda Kodiaq seems to win on paper with low excess mileage charges and decent Interest rates. And having more Kit built in.

The other SUV that has ended up on the list was a Lexus RX450h and a Volvo XC90. NOw going beck to having 2 cars. With a budget somewhere around £1200 per month the more I spend on one the less we get on the other..

Any Ideas guys...

It's too big for my wife so we've discounted it. But I was very, very impressed with the Skoda Kodiaq Sportline that I test drove.

So you want a fast diesel saloon, a hyper hatch, and a 4x4? Have you considered an mx5? :p

You are aware that the X3 is taller, longer and wider than the Kodiaq?

Yes I'm aware. But the OP mentioned the Kodiaq in his post so I was giving an opinion on it. It's a great SUV at a really good price. There is apparently a hot VRS version being released next year. That could be one to watch.

No apparently about it, it's a confirmed car, using the 240bhp BiTDI that the Tiguan already uses.

On the 4x4 it's all about the number of kidlets you have to transport to be honest, there's some really capable little 4x4's these days (Ateca / XC40)... just IMHO

We can't wait until the VRS Kodiaq is released unfortunately. Or that would be right at the top of the 4x4 list.. We had a Nissan Murano a few years ago and it was pretty comfy but the aircon compressor went and it was an 8 week wait and £2500... We went through 1 2nd hand and a recon that didn't work before selling up. Also tyres were an absolute nightmare to get hold of.

The Mrs is 90% sold on a X3 20d xline That's here fave so far.

Fox will say buy a 5 series and thats also on the list. But no convertable for the few days of nice weather... 2 seaters are a no go though. Had a SLK 55 AMG in the past and whilst it was a rocket we couldnt get 2 suitcases in the boot.

I’ve got an F25 X3 35d M sport. I’ve done just a shade under 20k in the 12 months we’ve owned it from new and I love it. Great family car and in my mind, very comfortable with plenty of go.

Your post reads as though you want to buy two brand new cars, so I assume you’re looking at a G series X3. They look great, but if you’re doing big miles try and stretch into the 3.0 30d diesel. It genuinely makes enough refinement difference that you’ll not regret it. If I was buying one again I don’t think I’d bother getting a 35d over a 30d (or rather 40d now).

So we've had a response to a 435d xdrive M sport with ALL the bells and whistles... Over £14k off list price...Which isn't insignificant.

Waiting to see if we get any decent deals for the X3 20d Msport now
