Just came across a article testing a new Celeron based on the Core 2 Duo architecture, could this be the new budget OC chip?

When are these due? and at what price are they going to be released at?

Yep, unless its like in the 20s for price i don't see it being a hit as the 21xx series is well cheap tbh. Must i keep reminding everyone of the early Celerons (300A etc..), Pentium 3 Tualatin Celerons and Pentium M Celerons? :D those were definetly not slouches.

if its 2 thirds the price of the e2140 like that article says then i cant see many being sold at all, especially since it doesnt have speedstep.
They'll be aimed at budget Dell machines for light office work. And Dell sell them by the bucket-load.

I got a quote....

2140's on 300 installs saved a few hundred quid.

Any I.T guy that gets specs this chip and buys is a tit.

this will sell well in the business sector where they need quiet low power consumption machines for your basic windows, office, internet and mail.
could do with a few of these in my offices.

There's a fair few PIII's in our place that could do with an upgrade to something like this. Primarily they run as terminals for our iSeries's, with Lotus Notes and the odd Word document being the most taxing thing they'll come across.

Even an E2140 would be overkill, and explaining to the cheque-writers why we need dual-cores would prove pretty futile.

If you don't justify the budget each year your screwed.

I sign.

its nice to keep the techies on their toes :D

I was one once ;)

My 'boss' with his immense knowledge of IT once ordered Pentium 4 3Ghz with 256mb configs instead of our request of the cheaper alternative of Celeron 2.8 and 512mb RAM. This is on an RM network, a few hdds have died over the last 1 1/2 years, i say its due to the PC constantly living in the page file, with the 256mb ones the hdd light never goes off and they're easily outperformed by older machines we have with NW 2.4s and 512mb RAM :)
