I'm building a linux PC from all my spare bits I've got lying around but my puppy has chewed the end of my spare PSU.

The specs are i7 3770k
16Gb ram
GTX 980
1Tb SATA HDD

I'm looking for a cheap PSU to power this. There's no need to scope in future upgrades or extra GPU's as there won't be any.

What's my best bet on a tight budget.

Cheers

A 550w psu would be enough for your pc and still have spare headroom. Here are some suggestions from 550w-750w:-

YOUR BASKET
1 x XFX XTR 750W '80 Plus Gold' Fully Modular Power Supply £79.99
1 x EVGA Supernova G2 650W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply £74.99
1 x SuperFlower Leadex Platinum 550W Fully Modular "80 Plus Platinum" Power Supply - Black £71.99

The EVGA is built by Superflower and has the longest warranty at 7 years.
The XFX is built by Seasonic.
The Superflower Leadex has led's where you plug the cables in that you can't turn off.
