New Chip Fan Advice Needed

Hi,

My computer started making intermittent fan noises a few weeks ago and I took the cover off and cleaned it all out and all of the various fans, case fans, CPU fan, graphics card fan, power unit fans etc. It did not make any noise when I had the cover off so I had no idea which fan was causing the noise and when I put it all back together the intermittent noise started again.

When I switched my computer on today I got the message "Warning: Your Computer Chip fan fail or too slow". I take it this means that it is the CPU fan that is causing the problem and needs renewed?

My computer is just weeks out of the three year warranty and CPU/Main Board information from the original sales order is as follows:

AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual-Core 4400+ with HT Tech
ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe PCI-Express Mainboard - ATX

Can anyone please tell me where to get a new CPU fan for this system?

Any help or advice would be most appreciated.

Hi,

I have already done that. I took the CPU fan off, totally cleaned it and put it back again on again.

Hi,

I have been reading about thermal paste application and apparently it it used between the heatsink and the CPU. Would reseating/bedding the fan in it make a difference to the noise and should I also replace the fan?

Axel - I am only a beginner in all this, but thermal paste MUST be used to help conduct heat away from the CPU athus preventing an early death... (not yours, the chip !)
I also have learnt that cleaning off the old paste first is worth doing - you can buy here some cleaner and surface preparation stuff -

Once you have used some paste, try listening again - as you said the noise stopped when you took the case apart, my guess is that your case is the problem - with it running, try putting your hand firmly against one side then the next and so on, till you find which side is vibrating - have some case screws come loose ?
