I have a Asus A8N Sli Delux Mobo and the chipset fan broke the other day so i went to overclockers and purchased this Akasa AK-210 Blue LED Chipset Cooler
. I was told it would do the job. the problem that i have now is that i own a 8800 gts OC2 gfx card and the new chipset cooler cant be fitted due to its location under neath the gfx card.

so my question is can i just mount the heat sink without the fan or do i need a fan because people have recommended this (zalman ZM-NB45j Northbrige cooler that is fanless)

sorry if this has been asked before

im not after a new cooler i want to know if i can take the fan of the one i purchased and use it fanless or will i need a fan to cool the chipset

You will definately need the fan on it and be careful as I chipped the core of a A8N SLI Deluxe recently when trying to fit the VC-RE cooler to it resulting in a dead motherboard.

The Zalman ZM-NB47J wouldn't be a good choice either as the NF4 chipset gets very hot and would saturated it with heat in no time at all.

The HR-05 SLI won't need a fan though and would probably be much better suited due you having that graphics card.

so if i get the Thermalright HR-05 sli will it be ok when i buy another 8800gts oc2 gfx card. i mean it wont get in the way of the bottom card or anythign will it?

I used that Zalman fanless chipset heatsink on my A8N SLI deluxe when the fan broke. Only thing was it clashed with my graphics card. Simple fix was to bend the fins on the chipset heatsink. Not the ideal solution but it worked.
