Hello i`m looking at getting a new CPU in november,i`m stuck with socket 939 until next march time then i will be going core2duo.
My question is should i just save the cash until march or buy a duel core AMD,also will i notice the difference from my current cpu 4000+ 2.8Ghz,also which chip should i go for?thanks for your time

burtie

Or should i just get core2duo now it should not cost much if i sell my other bits, its just my wife gets a bonus in march so i`ll have more cash to spend ;)

I would say get a quad capable board with a Core 2 Duo... and watch you wonder how you lived without it :)

I dont think there is much point spending money on getting a chip to tide you over till march, you better off waiting and saving your money until then and buying a new mobo and core 2 quad CPU

I would agree with that. Not sure about getting a Core 2 Quad though, the Kentsfield will be an MCM CPU and pretty expensive too! You're probably looking at £650 - £700 for the cheapest one.

Why not keep your system? It's a great system and unlees you're encoding or editing, the 4000 uou got will be handle any game

Well its because i really do`nt want to get left behind, everyone seems to be going core2duo,the chip i have is a fantastic chip maybe what i really want to know is what would the difference be going core2duo now would i notice REALLY?

I play games and a little encoding photoshop, and thats it,i`m sure with some better ram i could see 3.0ghz with this chip.

No not a big difference, only in benching

Not a big difference?

I saw a huge performance in games by going Core 2 Duo.

Do you think everybody is buying Core 2 Duo because its only good at benchmarks?

Unless you meant the difference between 2.8Ghz and 3Ghz on the AMD then fair enough hardly any difference.

And thats only with a E6600 at 2.4Ghz think of what it is at 3.2Ghz?

Sorry can't see if your agreeing / disagreeing with me.
