New comp spec

hello all

after being out of the loop of all the new shiny compenents for the past 3 years i have no idea what to go for.

Heres what i want my pc to do:

I want my new pc to run the new flash point 2 and ArmA2 games ( im not after the graphic settings to run on high) i would also like the PC to run the up coming games for the next year.

My budget is at MAX £850

what can u guys come up with?

Here is a spec based on the Intel i7 920 (D0 stepping)

I will now put together a spec based on the core 2 which will be very overclockable and have more powerful graphics.

Here is the Core 2 Quad spec as promised:

For sheer gaming power the core 2 quad spec is better. But for any cpu bound tasks, the i7 will certainly win.

two very good specs there from cmndr andi. Personally i lean towards the i7 spec for future upgrades. Im trying my hardest to try and wait for the i5 to be released but its getting difficult!

Yeah they are slower and only use dual channel RAM. Hopefully they will be at a good price point though and drive down the Phenom prices too.

i've been looking around the site at the allready built systems and this one seems very good

upgrade to 8 gb ram and the 1024mb ati graphics card, this seems to be a sweet system.

what do u guys think?

Seems like a fair good system for the price. The CPU may be a let down as its an older architecture based on the old phenoms (I Think), and unless you fancy a Phenom II Tri core, i'd stay away from AMD and go for the Core2Duo spec posted above.

id go for cmndr_andi's first spec, but personally id consider saving a while to get a better graphics card.
