hey,

im planning on building a new rig, now i have built all of my comps to date, but my comp is currently 4 years old so i am out of date with components. could you guys give me any suggestions as to what i should be looking at?

The computer will be both a gaming rig and a work rig, so im thinking of an SLI board but other than that i dont know whats good now and whats not. A good benchmark for the sort of power i want would be playing BF2 high settings with no lag. im running on XP so i need a quite good processor to cope with the 101 processes opened by XP. Dont worry bout cases or disk drives, i know a bit about that :). any suggestions will be welcome.

ps. price is prob £1500 at the most.

ty in advance

ty for the quick reply, i already have a lcd x-black 19" monitor and i already have software and mouse and keyboard. keep them coming.

ty for all the replies, i have just about decided on what spec, just wanted to know your opinions:

AMD Athlon 64 3700
Asus A8N32-SL Deluxe
2GB Corsair XMS
BFG GeForce 7900 GTX 512MB
Akasa 80mm fan
FSP Sparkle FX600
Lian Li PC-7 PLUS
Western Digital Caviar 160GB (Storage)
Western Digital Raptor 74GB (OS)
Saitek Eclipse illuminated Keyboard
Logitech MX518 Mouse
LG GSA DVD+RW

well, i decided to drop the idea of a dual core because i was under the impression that not many prgrammes use the dual core at the moment. The 3700 seems to be pretty solid, i mean for the extra 60-70 quid will i actually be getting much more?

okay, so now im thinking of this spec:

HIS Excaliber ATI Radeon X1900XT-X
Lian Li PC7+
NEC 16x16 DVD+RW
Mushkin 2GB DDR XP4000 (CAS3)
Saitek illuminated keyboard
logitech optical gaming mouse
Hitachi Deskstar 160GB
Akasa 80mm fan
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4400+
Not about mobo but these are the two- DFI Lanparty UT NF4 SLI-D or DFI Lanparty UT NF4 Ultra-D- which is the better?

This current setup is based around S939, however i have noticed that AM2 has now been released....guess what the question is lol. Is it worth gettin a S939 or should i wait and invest in AM2?

okay, so if i am going to be using a ATI card then go for a crossfire mobo or a single slot mobo. Has anybody got any views on the new AM2 socket processors, mobos and ram. is it worth buying S939 over the AM2 or should i just take the plunge?
