Atm I am wanting to upgrade my computer, specifically the processor, motherboard and sound card. I have a budget of £226 but don't mind increasing it by about £200. I am looking for a good gaming processor that is future proof and maybe overclock plus a motherboard that is preferably future proof. A sound card with 5.1 surround sound capability is needed though.

Current specs -

CPU - Intel Pentium E5300 @ 3.7 Ghz
RAM - 4.00 GB Dual-Chaneel DDR2
Motherboard - Gigabyte G41M-ES2l (Socket 775)
Graphics - ATI Radeon 5870

Need any more information just ask!

Thanks in Advance!!

I need to know what size motherboard your case takes maximum (mATX or ATX).

Are your current optical and harddrive a SATA or IDE interface.

Also what PSU do you have?

Thats excellent then,

You will also need newer DDR3 RAM for modern boards, so,

As you said you can increase it by £200 or so I've gone somewhere in the middle:

Uncanny Stulid :D

True, but then every motherboard for the last 6 or so years has, wasn't sure if you wanted a dedicated one for better sound quality :)

Raikiri the cooler you showed has the socket LGA1156 but not LGA1155 is that a problem?

EDIT - are you sure it'll fit into my case? Is there a way for me to check? I have a pic of the inside if u need it..

As stulid says 1156 and 1155 are the same, cooler wise. Not sure about the case, but will check for you.

It should be ok, someone else with the 300 had a XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 fitted which is only 1mm shorter.

What bit dont you think will fit? are you sure thats an Antec300?

Height wise I'm guessing, the cooler I specced is quite tall (160mm).

Don't know just have never put in a motherboard before so don't know about how it all works and that and don't want all my parts to come and not find they fit.

EDIT - not is it not a 300 but it is very similar, i have no idea what case it is.

See all the empty space under your current board? thats where a ATX sized board will fill up and give access to the extra expansion slots.

Do you have any left over motherboard standoffs and screws? about three more?
