i am having some SERIOUS issues with my pc atm and currently 67% after 3 hours on trying to install windows on an ssd which was prompted by write speeds oddly dropping to less than 8mb which was causing io errors on start up.

I have a new SSD ordered but incase its not my 3-4 year old ssd it could well be the PSU because one of the sata power plugs is faulty or it could be the motherboard.

So, I have decided if a new ssd doesnt sort it I will just blanket replace the system.

Currently have i5 3570k or 3750k I get them mixed up with MSI Z77A-GD65.

I would be looking for something compatible with noctua dual fan cooler.

Motherboard
Memory 8gb minimum
CPU
Power supply with flexible ends.

5-600 quid available to spend.

What is your current psu ?

If the new SSD doesn't cure it then you can either go for a Z97 build and reuse your current Ram, or if you don't mind a lower end Skylake board then some of them support DDR3 as well.

The Noctua cooler will work on Z97 or Skylake as they have the same mounting holes. You would just need to clean off the old paste and re-apply some fresh stuff.

If you don't mind 2nd hand then you could look for a Z77 board on the auction site.

Well, that install failed and during setup Its saying it cant install windows and guves an error code and it wont ecen let me delete the partitions or format them, switched out sata cable to no avail so set it back to IDE mode and trying a windows install on a mechanical drive.

So far its going a hell of a lot quicker.

Nope, another error during install. This has me so stressed out its physically making me sick, hardly eaten in the past 2 days trying to sort this out.

I have tried two separate install disks, two different hard drives.

Ive not had a problem with my machine aince I bought it in aug 2012.

I dont know whats causing it, I dont know what might be causing it.

It started acting up the past week and now its just gone completely.

Typing with shaky hands on ipad here so I am sorry if I screwed up a few words.

On the 3 hour ssd it got up to 98% but on the mechanical it errored twice at 84% with a message ill post if it comes up again.

Edit

Looks like second install worked, i hope. Doing first boot now

Incase I end up replacing stuff here is some more detail on what I would like, much easier being able to type on a keyboard instead of ipad lol.

Motherboard with 6xSata Ports from just one controller.
Power Supply
8GB Memory

Want it to be compatable with the Noctua Dual Fan Cooler

Machine will be running 3-4 SATA Hard Drives, 1xSSD.

Been looking at motherboards and have heard of the Killer Network Card horror stories that come with the MSI Boards and a lot of the boards only have 4 SATA slots.

Edit
Being back on a mechanical boot drive is torture.

Edit 2
My biggest problem is with the SATA power cables, the connections are so far apart when the hard drives are in the bays and they just are not flexible at all.
