Currently got an Intel quad core q6600, with 4gb of ddr2. Was thinking of going for an upgrade:

Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor 155.99
Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 53.99
MSI P67A-G45 Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard 99.98
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus CPU Cooler 22.98
Total: £332.94

My only concern is will the ram be ok with that CPU and mobo? Or is it overkill? Would 4gb be just as good? How will the ram affect my chances of overclocking?

Hi,
What do you intend to use the PC for?

Overclocking on Sandybridge isnt limited by ram speed :) , so that Ram would work fine. Ram is super cheap at the moment so its really up to you. If you only use the PC for gaming you could get 4GB.

I have an original coolermaster stacker so I suspect room is not going to be an issue.

PC will be for general day use, some gaming also do some music production and mixing using Ableton Live.

Yeah that other mobo looks like a good choice. Thanks.

Got this ordered yesterday, cheers for the help and advice, can't wait for it to arrive and get it into my mini-itx case.

Yeah sorry I was joking. Should have added a smiley.

Do have a stacker.

And yes i have overclocked the 6600, its a SLACR one and will happily sit at 3.6 with little change in heat.
