New Computer Build (Specification Advice Needed)

The only downside with the Corsair HX 620W it only has 2 PCI-E connectors, and running corssfire you will need to check that the card comes with molex to PCI-E adapters.

Edit: I'm running the Corsair now and it is silent.

What corsair is it that you are running at the moment?

To start off with i would only be running one 4870. Would i still need this Adapter to start off with or is it only for crossfire?

I'm running the HX 620w at the moment, sold the TX 750.

The problem will only occur when running crossfire, the 4870 takes one 6 pin and 8* pin.

Edit: Need to double check.

Ah ok i see. Crossfire was just an idea for the future, if i really needed it, or the card fell in price.

But im guessing this problem could be easily rectified by buying an adapter from somewhere if it wasnt to be included with the card?

Regarding the Corsair. I have the HX520 and requested extra SATA and PCI-E leads from corsair and they sent me out 2 cables with 3 sata connectors on each, and 1 PCI-E cable with 2x 6+2pin connectors on each (all free of charge!).

Thats good service, I knew that people with older PSU which only had 6 pin PCI-E connectors could ask for the new 6 + 2 PCI-E :)

So the 4870....for its power connector is it a 8 Pin? Or is it a 6Pin and a 8pin? Sorry i have managed to confuse myself

Edit: Looks like 2 x 6 pin :)

Either way the cables have the 2 extra pin loose.

I dont know why its bothering me so much about the power supply. I dont think modular would be any advantage to me...

So im still tempted by the 750 as the only difference i can see between the 750 and 620 is that fact that the 620 is modular and the 750 is not, but has more power...

Would the 750 come with the 6pin and the 8pin connectors that i need, i may have...but i dont remember ever seeing what a 6pin or 8pin connector looks like.

Do the 6pin and 8pin both need to be connected? Just remember my 7800 only needing one connection.

Sorry made a mistake earlier looks like there 2 x 6 pin power connectors for power.

You will need both connectors connected at the same time, the TX 750 PSU will come with 6 pin and 8 pin power connectors if required.

The 8 pin PCI-E is the 3rd pic down, the 2 extra pins are detachable to make 6 pin.

Excellent, and if i was to do crossfire in the future i can always get an adapter to turn something into a 2 x 6 pin?

dave.. im next door.. get the rig ordered... for the love of all that is sane in this world...

at this rate the only thing not to have posted will be your new rig:p

the 750w is just a more powerful version of the 620w... without modular..

The 750w comes with 4 :p so you should be fine :).

The only downside like I mentioned earlier the can be noisey* at high loads and if it pulls air from the case, if you have fresh air to the PSU then it should not be a problem.

* Wether they are all like this I don't know :)

Hopefully using the Antec 12 will solve any problems of a lack of fresh air?
