Hi I recently built a computer for a colleague and they had said they could smell burning.

I also noticed that the cpu fan is making a noise like it is under load.
I checked the bios and the cpu seems to be idle at 52/53 degrees MoBo says 35 degrees, thats pretty high right?

Anyone know what this could be? What can i do to rectify it?

Ok so I've ran it down to a local pc/hardware shop.

They are going to take a look at it, they said amd's run pretty hot and may just need a upgraded cooler.

But running in bios at 50c with fan at 4000rpm.. seems more of another problem.

Im based in Kent.

Thanks all

thanks, i was careful and followed a tutorial on the internet, using a plastic card worked pretty well..

the pins seemed fine, the thermal paste that was on there was the stuff that comes on the stock cooler.

Just had a call from them, they tried a 6 core amd cpu @3.4 and it seems to be running at 35c

They will stress test it first.

Looks like I broke the CPU.. ?

Strange that's actually what they said.

they said the pins seemed fine. They also said but now the computer looks like its not booting up with that CPU, it was standard clock speed. Looks like they've scratched the cpu getting the paste off.

To be honest the 6-core CPU in it now is still running at high temperatures, so not sure what is causing it.

I guess I could send this CPU to someone if they fancy a look at it, not sure if it will run now though.
