Hi this.. i just got this spec,

AMD Athlon 64 3800+ X2
2GB Dual Channel Ram
Radeon X1300 Series

I got this pc but it doesnt seem very powerfull..

My last specs were;

AMD Athlon 3000+
512 mb ram
Radeon 9600 SE!!!

Well i play COD multiplayer a lot and my FPS on my old system was around 90...

But on this new system i can get up to around 240 fps stable but normally just around 150 fps on all low graphics...

Is this normal? or doesnt COD2 use both cores of the processor?

Im not very good with computers incase u havnt noticed :P

Thanks

Sam

Naff video card.
But also install the AMD CPU driver. Did you do a fresh install, or just upgraded the CPU with existing OS install?

No i didnt do a fresh install... i did install some drivers for the CPU but it seems like something is wrong... its driving me crazy... its not even just in games... the computer just doesnt seem to peform as well as i thought it would... going from the pc i had to this pc isnt much differant 30% increase is all i see to be honest.

And about dual core not being effective in games... i think that is because only some games support dual core at the moment... and the rest just use one core :'(

EDIT: So maybe a new graphics card is in order? any suggestions also... ill probably buy second hand... maybe i should think about overclocking also?

Does Task Manager look like this?

It's the graphics card. The X1300 is basically, useless. That's what is holding you back. Do you have a budget for a new card. The X1950Pro is a good card that's highly thought of on here. If you can't stretch that much then maybe a cheap 7600GT.

The x1300 isn't a whole lot faster than the 9600. Your getting about the anticaipated performance increase for games. Also if your getting 150fps+ then why the hell are you using low settings? Up the setting until you get an average of about 60-80fps.

You also have to remember that in single thread programs your CPU is only the equivalent of an A64 3200+. Not much of an increase from your previous CPU.

For gaming, the GFX card is one of the most important aspects.
(Dual core helps too, but mainly in the fact that your p2p (if used), outlook, system processes (inc hdd access) are all done on the other core - Allowing your game to use all of one core.)

Up the GFX card (7900GT 2nd hand is nice - Plays almost all games at full detail with AA etc) and you'll notice a huge improvement in games.

2GB of RAM too you'll notice much quicker lvl loading times with the likes of the B F series, and any other games that use a lot of RAM.
(Considering my firefox usually site around 200MB of RAM used - That would be half the RAM if you had 512MB!)

As everyone else has pointed out, your x1300 is a naff card for gaming, i have a x2 3800 and a 7800GS, and i run all my games, CoD2, Fear, Prey etc, at high settings with no problem at all, also, if your up to it, overlock that cpu, should be good for 2.4+ depending on cooling etc...

See Sig for my spec.

as said about unless your using multithreaded application you arent gonna see a great deal of difference between your 3800 and your previous 3200. Oh and get a new gpu :p

Mine looks like the second 1, So you guys think its best to get a new graphics card? i dont have a budget for a graphics card.. i just basically cant get 1 untill i get paid :P

Is there any chance that a GPU as powerfull as a X1950Pro will be bottlenecked by my CPU?

Thanks for the replys guys,

Sam.

Maybe i need to get a good CPU fan then and try overclocking my CPU a little (Never overclocked before).

Im scared

Haha i hope i dont blow anything if i do decide to overclock.

I dont want to overclock much anyway, just enough to notice a nice speed increase.

Sam.

If it's fast in Windows, and slow in games then it's the videocard holding things back. The X1300 is really just suitable for a HTPC.

It's like putting a Voodoo Banshee in your rig, for Windows it'll be identical to a Nvidia 8800GTX (although I guess Nvidia will offer video acceleration) but in gaming the Banshee will be unusable.
