Hello all :)

Im looking to build myself a new rig for heavy 3d work (Maya) and rendering, some photoshop and the odd bit of gaming. Im generaly looking for a bit of advice as to what I should be getting to cope with my needs. Im guessing im looking for quality cpu/gfx/ram. With a minimum of perhaps 8gigs of ram.

My other question is would it be more beneficial to get an nvidia quadro or top end gtx/ati card ? Would quadro cards be able to cope with recent & future pc game releases ?

Guess im looking for suggestions on builds, so any help anyone could give would be great :)

had a look at putting some items together, currently im at ...

cpu - i7 920
mobo - Asus P6T

As for memory and gfx this is the area im still really usure about. At the moment there is some OCZ gold 6GB 10600 tri-chan ram on special this week.... Im wondering if it would be better to say, buy 2 sets of this for 12 gigs instead of say 6 gigs of kingston hyperX 16000+ ram. Again, what are peoples thoughts on this ?

thankyou for the replies, has helped a lot :)

At the mo im currently looking at ..

i7 920
asus P6T
2 x ocz Reaper 6 gig (3 x 2) 14400 (1800Mhz) tri chan ram. 12 gigs in total

I've opted for the extra ram over say a mid range quadro's as they are pretty expensive. I think ill go for a nvidia BFG 285 GTX for gpu. One thing that did baffle me, is the mid range BFG 285 card, which seems slightly better than the low end one is a few £ cheaper ? - am i missing something there ?

As for storeage. I have a 250gig SATA hdd which is a year or so old and a 1tb external hdd. So i guess i can use those and save myself a bit of mullah by not getting bigger space. Its not as though im fighting for space at the moment tbh.

But the case probably can be upgraded, I have an old coolmaster wave case, which does get very warm to the point of the pc shutting itself down when i run certain games. So i was thinking of something large with pleanty of fans ?

Just leaves the PSU really, what sort of power would I need to run the proposed hardware ?

Oh, one last thing, i assume I will need vista x64 to run all that ram?
