New computer is slow....

Hello, so recently i did a new semi computer build. I used my old psu, cd drive, hard-drive, case. Anyway, my other specs are
i5 2500k (Overclockers 4,000 mhz idle temp 29c and stress test 24 hours max was 63c with no errors) Ram is single channel 4 gb ddr3 1600mhz (I though this might be the problem as duel is allot faster apprently?) M/B p67 fatal1ty performence series. Graphics card is Nvidia 8600 gt... Will upgrade when i get some more money -.-

So, could anyone tell me what i could do to find out why it is running abit slow?
So what i mean is, is that when i load up the internet it will take about 5 seconds to load the actual browser. Or when i load a game it will take about a minute :/

Thanks.

Single channel memory will make a difference. My other comp was having issues so I took out all the ram (4x2gb DDR2) and ran with one stick. It solved my issue and I left it like that for awhile (I couldn't be bothered to find the faulty stick).

Things were slower but I would'nt say it was taking 5 seconds for the browser to kick in...maybe 3. I have since added another stick and it has sped it up massively though.

Maybe get some cheap DDR3 1600 ram x2.
