New Computer Isn't Starting - CPU Was 45Degrees In Bios & Now It Wont Even Go To BIOS

I just bought a computer from overclockers with all the components and it doesn't seem to want to start. First there was no CMOS jumper, lucky I had one spare and so I put it on and it actually started up with the fans whirring but no image.

Then I thought i'll try one more time and the screen went into the BIOS and CPU temp was 45 degrees!

I switched off and reinstalled the cpu adding a large amount of thermal paste on top of the intel supplied stuff but now it won't start at all. The monitor recognises somthing but just stays a blank screen and comes up with a message saying low power mode.

I have mounted the motherboard on metal studs, fitted the heatsink correctly, the hard-drive and cdrom are both sata so not sure if that could stop it, the only thing I can still think of is faulty motherboard or cpu or I was going to try removing the rubber washers from the motherboard mounting studs, although I doubt it will work!

Can anyone help me out. Thanks.

hi
same happens on my system when the cmos jumper is set in the clear position. check cmos jumper position as it sounds like it maybe inverted.

Bad!

For one, before you put on thermal paste you should always clean both the HSF and CPU thoroughly of any other paste or material.

And for seconds, you don't need a lot! The more you use the hotter it will be. You only need a small line a few mm across down along the middle of the CPU in the same direction as the cores. Look up guides on how to do it. The makers of AS5 have a very good guide on their site.

But I doubt that's your main problem as 45C is well under the 85C reboot limit.

RMA time.

Interesting, I thought putting a layer of paste was the best method, I'll have to clean it up then, but looks like the motherboard is probably dead anyway so i'll be contacting OCuK. :(

Are you sure its needs a jumper on there? Have you tried without it?

Ok here are the components:

ABIT MATX F-190HD - Onboard GPU / Sound
E4300 - Retail Heatsink
OCUK Value 2GB 6400
Raptor 150GB

I did some more testing on it actually and managed to get it booting to the BIOS. I had bothe sticks of memory, cpu, and sata hard-drive connected, but when I connected the sata dvd-rw it failed to boot. Then I took it out and it won't boot with anything again? Seems really strange.

No, the fans just run and light comes on but no noises, but there is no speaker on case or motherboard I dont think. I did try with just one ram and it worked and then I tried more stuff and it stopped working and then went back to one ram again and it wont work with even one now!
