New computer - Low Budget

little more specific

Can you be slightly more specific.

eg :

Do you have any current parts you will re-use internally (hard disk etc). Will be re-using a monitor/keyboard and mouse ?

Do you have a preference AMD/Intel, what will the PC be used for, will you overclock ?

Essentials :
Motherboard
CPU + cooler (stock is fine when on a tight budget)
RAM

Extras (which can be essentials depending on existing options)
Case
Power Supply
Graphics card (which you have mentioned you would like already)
Hard disk

Add-ons
Mouse/Keyboard/Monitor/Soundcards/speakers.

Thanks for replying so fast mate!

Ok, i have a 19" widescreen lcd monitor, a keyboard, and a mouse.

Will just need the base unit. As for intel/amd, i think amd will be my only real option? Overclocking...if it'll be easy to do, of course ill do it!

No speakers or sound card or anything like that..just a base unit :)

IE. Mobo, RAM, Case, PSU, DVD Drive, Hard Drive, CPU

Thanks a lot,

Solaris

Oh no, Intel have budget CPU's that are currently just way better than AMD.

The e2140 can be overclocked to incredible speeds, as can the e2160. Both have 1MB cache.

hmmm

Going to be very difficult to get it down to 220, here is what I have so far :

OcUK 1GB (2x512MB) PC2-6400C5 800MHz DDR2 Dual Channel Kit£23-49
Antec Basic 500W PSU £39-94
Samsung SpinPoint P SP1654N 160GB ATA-133 8MB Cache - OEM £34-06
Abit IP35-E (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard £70-49
Intel Core 2 Duo E2140 "LGA775 Conroe" 1.60GHz (800FSB) - Retail £46-99
Akasa AK-ZEN-01-BK Zen Black Case - No PSU £30-54

There is no CD/DVD in that though. 20 quid more for one of them +-

ub Total : £208.94

City Link Parcel Next Day (Delivered Mon-Fri)
(This can be changed during checkout) Shipping : £9.95
VAT is being charged at 17.5% VAT : £38.31

You could choose a slightly less expensive motherboard, I chose the cheapest of the P35 range, but there are Intel965 chipset based boards that are just as good, for less.

It can get to good speeds yes, but thats relying on a good motherboard, ram, and heatsink. Which i rather think this spec cant afford.

Cheap AMD system, 2gb ram, 2.6ghz dual core, for a respectable price.

could do with a better mobo to o/c it like. and are you going to be gaming or anything?

Thanks for all your replies guys, but im afraid my budget really is £220 :(

Shipping doesn't need to be factored in as i live near OC.

Question: Someone has offered me: A8N-SLi Premium mobo, 1gb geil ram, 3700+ athlon 64, xfx 7800gt. For £150 (s939 though)

Is that a good deal?

TBH, i'm not overly fussed about the processor..or motherboard...or case. I do understand that this is a budget system.

Well, itd cost around £240 to buy all the components new, but you really arent getting a great system, considering you need a case, power supply, hard drive and optical drive to make it useable.

Lets see what we can compare the components above to :
1 GB RAM DDR2 = £23-49
Motherboard = £35-24
Core2CPU e2140 = £46-99
GF 8500256MB GFX = £46-99

Total : 152-62. Does not leave much for HDD, case , power supply. The above I have used the cheapest I could find of each type, and used the left over to get the most powerful gfx card for the money.

Take off the 8.95 for shipping and you left with around 228 ...

Ps. the above case barebones includes a 250w power supply, I would suggest tossing that and getting a better one, it also has on-board gfx, so if GFX is not really important, you can take off the cost of the gfx card, use the onboard and get a better power supply.
