Hi all, im currently building a new computer for my brother but the computer wont send a signal to activate the monitor (Black screen).

All kit is installed properly including the 3d card and its powered (fan is spinning)
There are no warning beeps from the board.
The HD has an active windows install i havnt removed yet, i can hear the computer loading it from the HD sounds.

The only thing i can think of is either a dead 3d card (but BIOS not detecting), or that the second 12v power supply (4 pin one near the cpu) isnt connected as the PSU doesnt have one. Also there are two DVD-RWs, 1xSATA and 1xIDE, could this be causing interference? Any other ideas? I feel like im missing something daft.

Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R
Intel Quad Q9300 yorkfield (45nm)
4x1Gb Corsair XMS2
EVGA 9600GT 512Mb

You need to connect the 4 pin by the cpu, as you mention your psu does not have one you will need to purchase a new power supply.

The 4pin is mandatory? I remember having one on an old sktA board and it wasnt needed, oh how things change.

Crap, just bought a brand new 550w Corsair VX Series that even has the new fancy 8pin PCI-e cable but no 4pin 12v? :( Better phone up the sale support to get it changed

Edit to add- Found the 4pin, there are two of them connected into a 8pin block. Ok so now the 4pin 12v is in, but where the computer once booted fine but no monitor, now powers up for about 5sec then restarts (this motherboard powers down to do a restart rather than a straight hard reset). Any ideas?

Try removing one memory module, reset the CMOS and try a reboot.
Hopefuly you go in the BIOS and set up the memory voltage and timmings.

this happened to me yesterday :( tried everything and then called ocuk to see what they thought... its most likely a faulty motherboard
