New Computer Problems

I'm just finishing up building my new computer and I have been having some problems when I try to turn it on. Here are the specs for the new computer:

Akasa Eclipse 62
Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU
2x Western Digital Caviar SE16 500GB 5000AAKS SATA-II 16MB Cache
2x Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz Dual Channel Kit
OcUK GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600
Abit IP35 Pro (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

The very first time I turned it on, I was getting 1 long beep that was repeating. Looking up the codes told me that it was a RAM problem, and so I tried re-seating everything, and turned it on again. However now it hangs during post. On the LED display I get code 0d.

Now, I've tried moving around the memory, and removing some of the sticks of RAM and I've found out that all of the RAM slots on the mother board are working (It gets past POST no matter where RAM is plugged in) and all RAM sticks are working (Again, it gets past POST no matter which RAM stick is plugged in). In fact the only thing that seems to make it hang is when I have all 4 sticks of RAM plugged into the motherboard. (It will always get past post if I have only 3 sticks plugged in.)

Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do to fix this? Would updating the BIOS to the latest version help?

Thanks.

Hi,

Running 4 dimms places an additional load on the memory controller.

Generally DDR2 runs at 1.8v, the balistics PC6400 needs 2.2v for the stated timings and speed. This needs to be set manually in the BIOS. By default the timings are typically slack to allow the memory to run at PC6400 with just 1.8v

Boot into the BIOS with 2 sticks in dual channel.
Set the timings and voltage manually
Reboot to ensure the settings have saved
Turn off
Add the rest of the memory
See if that cures it.

if not, you may need to slacken off the timings a little to get 4 dimms to run. Default is 4-4-4-12, so try 5-5-5-18

Hi decto, thanks for the reply.

I've tried setting the voltage to 2.2v, but that hasn't helped the problem. Additionally I've found out that the floppy drive is not working, so I can't do anything like set up the RAID 1 partition for installing Windows.

Basically at this point, if talking with the Abit tech support guys tomorrow morning doesn't help, then I'm going to have to order a new motherboard. (This computer needs to be up and running by Friday :( )

Sooo, in case I can't get everything working, does anyone have any suggestions as to which motherboard would be good to get?
(I'm thinking of maybe the Gigabyte GA_P35_DQ6)
