So i made my first thread last week as i got a corsair h50 to install on my 775 rig.

Installed, everything was great worked etc, then my computer died!! So now I have just bought/built my new i5 rig all from overclockers woop.

Gigabyte ga-p55-ud5
Intel i5 750
4gb xms3 corsair
8800gt 512mb
Corsair 650w HX
Corsair h50
Windows 7 64bit

Just in the process of installing updates etc. I have a couple of questions though-

my H50 is cooling great still around 25-32 idle but the numbers are jumping around a hell of a lot, they never used to, they stay within 25-32 its just wierd.

Also obviously I want to overclock as people can get like 4ghz ive heard easily. but there are so many things now in the bios i dont know where to start so if someone could point me in the right direction, i.e what to turn off, what to turn up what not to turn up. p.s i dont want tom overclock memory.

are the numbers jumping round whilst just sat idling at desktop? If so then its possibly poor contact between heat sink and cpu, if theyre jumping whilst its doing background stuff dont worry about it

re OCing look in the Overclocking and cooling section, theres a guide there which should be good for getting you started, if you still have questions ppl will be happy to help

yer but was installing windows updates, ive disabled turbo boost and power save feature, thats stopped it going so wild now.

you said there was poor contact, so i checked my screws and one was pretty lose so ive re-tightened it now.

i also added another fan push/pull, amazingly i had the right screws and my temps are at

30
27
32
27

which isnt so bad on stock.

i did prime95 and Intel burn test before i added push/pull and got about 50C max and now 49 which isnt a huge improvement. also to note i had my fans at low rpm to keep them quiet so obv i wud get better temps with normal speed. also gotta wait for my thermal compound to cure
