New Connect program - Kinect dashboard preview

Yes, it will be nice to have a tinker with the new dash. From the leaked videos I've seen on YouTube, I'm a huge fan. Love the new colours, the sharp lines, etc.

Looking forward to trying it out not sure if I like the look of it from the videos that I've watched. :o

I'm wondering how the new avatar Friends section is displayed. If they have adopted the "straight on" look as with the other sections, that will muck up all the pre-existing premium themes, won't it?

MJN via Twitter :)

Ooh, great stuff. I guess it won't take effect until late tonight/early morning here by the time the Xbox tech bods in Redmond get going.

Supplementary - I seemed to have missed this bit at E3.

I’m also excited to confirm that Video Kinect will integrate with Windows Live Messenger at launch, so Xbox LIVE members can video chat with hundreds of millions of PC users around the world. Video Kinect will use Kinect to bring the people you care about right into your living room without a headset, and adjust automatically to capture everyone in the room.

Oh noes. That is a bummer. I've been anticipating it all day (yes, I'm sad) - to be rejected now would be gutting. :(

Ooh yes. I like it even better than in the videos. So clean and crisp.

Anyone tried the new voice codec yet?

I got a 2nd update today and now it just keeps saying there is an update and i cant connect to live

The second update was just some tutorial presentation explaining how to navigate the dashboard. I guess you'll have to keep trying until it goes through?

Provided the LT shortcuts are still there it isn't much of an issue imo.

I wish they had an option to configure which section the triggers skipped to. It never goes to "My Xbox" and "Friends" but always something daft like Spotlight.

I see there's another dashboard update tonight. Wonder if this fixes the inability to download things from the marketplace. :D

EDIT: Interesting. It now tells you how big the patches are when you need to update a game on first launch. I just started Mass Effect and it says 592K to be downloaded. Useful info, I suppose.
