New Conroe Mobo + Ram?

got my E6400 today but still havnt got a board or ram yet

thinking along the lines of a ds4 and need ram which will do 800mhz+
any ideas on a good overclocking combo and prefably 2Gb ram if possible?
budget is around £300, cheers

I'd probably go with this, the DS3 is noted for better overclocking with the 6300 & 6400 chips than the DS4(which is better for 6600 and above), the Geil is good Ram and compatible with pretty much any motherboard that uses DDR2.

whats the big difference in the ds4 and ds3 and do the coolers make a lot of difference?
bear in mind i have high end water cooling so this will get pushed to its limits.

The Gskill isn't compatible with the Gigabyte or rather only the GSkill HZ(I think that is the model number) is which I think might be beyond your budget. The DS4 is based on the 975 chipset and clocks better with the 6600 and above, the DS3 is based on the 965 and works better with the lower chips of the range.

This is all taken from memory but should be confirmed if you have a root around in the motherboard and CPU forums

i seen somewhere that gskill works on gigas ounce the bios is updated to F3? (someone on here has that ram working with that bios too afaik)

ive done far too much reading but spoilt for choice so need oppinions lol

Sorry my mistake on that one, I did say it was from memory to point out it might not be right but the remainder still stands. There were/are problems with GSkill other than the HZ and Gigabyte motherboards, flashing the bios might cure the problem but it is usually far easier to get something compatible to begin with.

ahh no worries, theres some of that geil in the MM so perfect timing there

suppose i may aswell go with the DS4 now?
