hi everyone - just set up my new rig as below:
550w psu
Asus P5B deluxe wifi (965 chipset)
6300 Core Duo
3x 512mb Corsair XMS2 800mhz DDR2
7300 PCI Express GC
Freezer Pro 7 cooler
1x120gb WD SE Sata II HD
1x320gb Seagate Sata II HD
case fan
IDE DVD-writer

Problem:
Went to turn it on for the first time- fires up all fans working, light on motherboard goes from standby to on. However, the following is occurring:
1) No signal to my monitor through either DVI or VGA - so cannot see whether anything is working i.e. cannot see bios
2) DVD Writer does not seem to have power as cannot use the open/close button.
3) Reset button not working despite using the ASUS widget thing to make sure the correct wires go on the correct pins on mboard.
4) Don't think it is recognising keyboard.

Any ideas welcome - as i have never had any problems before with previous rigs although this is my first Intel build.

Many thanks.

Correct I cannot use 3 memory sticks - i have tried using 1 and two memory sticks with no luck.

I'm now going to try using each memory slot with one stick to see if that works. If not then i shall try using a different power supply and go from there...

hey m8t... i was in the same boat as you but with a e6600 and 2gb gskill. I also had another problem with that mobo. I sent yesterday on rma. Hopefully thier is something that can be done to rectify this as i am feeling thier is something wrong with the batch of mobos.. maybe bios needs updating??? I will post back 2 morrow when mine comes through.

also im wondering if its a ram issue with these mobos...Could any one who has a asus p5b with a conroe and decent ram (6400) please post so we can get an idea for how many people are running these....

I think i've seen something about RAM issues with conroes, but no with this motherboard - altho i may be wrong.

I will test using just the gc, ram, cpu and motherboard as suggested above and then post back with my results (if any)

any results?

no luck - just tried 1 stick of memory in 1 of the slots last night with no hard disks attached, altho still had my cd writer connected to my ide slot (but don't think this would make any difference) - still did not boot, but as above all fans, lights etc working on mb - I'm thinking your right this must be a RAM issue with 6400 or greater sticks of mem???

I bought the board about a month ago, so perhaps its a bios issue, but as i cannot get it to even boot i have no chance of updating the bios!

I am at a loss over what to do - i think its safe to say the hard disks are not the cause, the mb seems okay i.e lights up, psu (possible cause, may still try with my old psu tonight and report back) otherwise i think it must be RAM compatibility.

Will i be able to send my motherboard back to get one with an updated bios? or is it too late as i have owned it for a month? two weeks of which has been trying to get it to work!

Any comments appreciated.

When you boot does the cd-drive light flash, just stay on or does it not light at all.

Had a problem with a cd-drive once which gave me the same problems you have. All it turned out to be was that i'd stupidly put the IDE cables in the wrong way.

have you tried testing it on bench? i.e. having the motherboard of out the case! i know i had a similar thing with my old dfi board where it was shorting against the case for some reason

cheers ttam - will double check this - at the moment not getting any light or anything on the cd-drive.
