'evening gents

so for the past number of years i've been using a good ol' xbox 360 controller for those games where mouse+keyboard doesn't really work.

sadly my controller seems to have died, putting me in the market for a replacement.

the main advantage of the 360 controller needless to say is that it requires minimal (read: zero) setup in any game i'm inclined to use it in, and that's something my sony leaning self is nethertheless inclined to preserve.

so is my default/vanilla choice of the latest xbox controller a sensible choice, or dare i return to my sony roots if the latest controllers have similar levels of "it just works todd howard guarantee tm"?

I'd avoid the Xbox One completely, it's such a different shape that the bumpers aren't in a very ergonomic place imo. 360 all the way, i even bought a spare. If ain't broke, don't fix it kinda thing.

I'm using an 8bitdo Ultimate.

Hall effect sticks, 2.4 wireless for pc and BT for switch, paddle buttons and all buttons fully customisable in the software.
Great wireless controller for a reasonable price, especially compared to scuf etc, for around 200 sheets!

Always preferred PS compared to XBOX, and the dualsense works perfectly for me. Steam drivers work just fine - only issue is you might end up with the wrong button prompts on screen in games, but you soon learn which is which

I had issues with an old xbox controller and went for a 8itdo Ultimate controller, hall effect sticks and very smooth. Bit smaller than the xbox but initially very happy with it. Also managed to get it for £45 :)

Just came here to echo this sentiment for anyone looking for a decent controller. Picked one up a few weekends ago and loving it. Bought it mostly for Forza, but find myself using it in other games now as well. Really cannot find anything bad to say about it.

I guess if you have really big hands you might find it a tad small, but I don't

They look interesting, but the spec says:

8bitdo Ultimate

  • Bluetooth®5.0(for Switch only)
  • 2.4g connectivity
  • USB-C

Does that mean you can't use BT on PC, and have to use it wired, or via a wireless dongle?

Can't go wrong with an MS xbox series x pad, IMO.. it just works really well. £40 on the rainforrest at the moment.
