I have got my new Core i7 system running as I want it generally, so I am now wondering if there is any mileage in spending more time pursuing more performance and if so what should I aim to do next?

Looks very good mate, load temps are extremley good, the only way you could maybe push a wee bit higher is a custom watercooled setup, but at 4.2ghz on air things look extremely good, only thing id change on a rig like that is maybe a new graphics card.

Thats about as tight as you'll get it can't do a lot more with that system appart from maybe changing the graphics card as said above.

After 2 minutes of prime I'd expect the temperatures to be very good indeed. If it's not prime/ibt stable then I suggest the next thing to tweak is the many settings needed to get it stable.

From the look of the screenie, 2 mins.

Is the system currently prime stable?

It's 'overnight' Prime stable (about 6 hours for me and those temperatures shown are a a few degrees lower IIRC) ... even tried IBT but cores did not load properly it seems, wierd! Since clocking it I have played quite a few hours of games - the whole of Saturday it was being (tested!) used for games by my son and co (Dirt 2 for about 5 hours straight) and today I put a second GTX 260 in there which has now been through a few hours of the likes of Crysis, COD MW2 with no ill effects ... so I am satisfied.

.... have lowered voltages a wee bit so will test stability further

After tweaking a few voltages including lowering the RAM voltage I did a P95 run overnight ...: This one managed 7hours 17mins and note the max temp ... this rig now includes a second GTX so that will have added a few degrees probably ..
